What's Pink and Black & White All Over???

Molly's room, of course.  Here's what I have been up to:
  • I bought a chair at an antique store for $40.  I painted it white and re-covered the seat.
  • The white frame above Molly's desk is now a bulletin board.
  • Paper maiche letters were painted and accented with black grosgrain ribbon and sit above her closet doors.
  • A mirror was painted white and hung up (pics to come later).
  • An "M" was hung on her bedroom door.

Fifi loves the changes.  And I love that she matches!

A lot of changes will be coming this week.
Let me know what you think.  I would love to hear what you think of the room so far.

While you are here, take a look around!

Molly had her first date tonight!  Her daddy is taking her to the Girl Scout Ball.  She was so excited and could  not stop giggling!  I think he was kinda excited too! They are going to dinner and then a big night of dancing!

Too Sweet!

My Old Chippy Toolbox

I have this old tool box.  The paint is chippy, crackled and really beat up.
It dates back to January 2011.
Yep, like I said it is old.

Here is the story of this old toolbox.
My son made this really cute box in Ag. class.
The minute he described to me what he was making I knew what I wanted to do with it.
"Mom" he said, the teacher (who is a women!! You go girl!!) asked if I wanted to paint my project or stain it.  Neither, I said.  "What?" he asked.
I have big plans for this Max, just bring it home and I will fix it up.

This is what it looked like before;

The edges were rough and uneven, some parts were cracked and a nail is coming through the side of it.  It was perfect!  I could hardly control my happiness!

So I put a thin coat of white paint on it.
The picture shows you the edges I was talking about.

Next, I put on crackling medium on the sides and end pieces.
Once it dried, I slapped green paint all over the box.

I put more white paint over the box and distressed it to show the green paint

I stained the bottom and then went over the sanded edges with the stain.

Once I got the aged look I wanted, I printed off a few graphics I found over at

I tore the paper and burnt the edges, then I applied it to the box using Modge Podge.

And here is my old chippy toolbox in all it's glory!

I had a hard time deciding on which graphic to use.  The one above is very fancy.
I also picked out a very plain one.  I wanted to stencil it on but I just wasn't working out, so I drew it on free-handed and went over it with a thin tipped marker.  Then I sanded it down and got the old look I wanted.

Which side do you like?  I can't decide!

Here is the before;

And the after;

I hope you like my new/old chippy toolbox.
I love that it looks old, rotten in spots and beat up.
The finish is smooth as a baby's butt!

Thanks Max for letting me have your project!
I love it and will use it lots!  I can't wait to get to Michael's to

Gallery Wall

In November I change out the artwork over my couch.
The Fowl with Pearls print by Michael Sowa makes me smile every time I look at her.
The wall is large is blank space.  I have always loved gallery walls and wanted to have one of my own.  It has slowly progressed and I plan to
add more as I find items that are meant to be.

Here is the progression:

The original art came from Kirklands.
I was never in love with it.

Here she is all by herself.

These belonged to my great-grandmother.
They have been in a drawer for a long, long time.

"The Bookworm" by Carl Spitzweg belong to my Mom.
I have looked at this all my life.  Thanks for letting me have it Mom!

I was thrilled to find this Santos doll at Homegoods.

These change often, I can't get satisfied with them.
I am thinking of new lamps?
What do you think?

Furniture fit for a Princess!

I have been trying to re-do my daughter room for over a year now.
Why do something today that you can put off to another day right!
I am almost done and I wanted to show you her up-cycled
furniture that has been given a new life.

This is the before.
Unfortunately I don't have a picture of the desk.  But it was the same color.
Both pieces were purchased at a furniture consignment shop for $40 each.

Each piece was sanded and painted with 3 coats of Valspar's Swiss Coffee.
Minwax Finishing Paste was the final step.
The hardware on the desk was found at Lowe's for $6 each.
The frame was found at a thrift store for $4!

I still have a chair to finish and recover, the frame will hold a bulletin board,
I need new lamps and a chandelier.
I have some really fun artwork that I will reveal this week.
And of course I did this very in-expensively.
Hopefully all will be done by Valentines day!

Let me know what you think!
